Step-by-Step Inspiration Highlights
Step 1: Build Theater Style Columns
- Use scrap wood to craft simple rectangular column bases. Don’t worry, it can look ugly, as it will be all covered 😉 Also, if you plan to add or reroute electrical wiring for future wall sconces, be sure to map out the placement and install the necessary electrical boxes before closing up the columns.
- Cover the column bases with 1/8″ MDF panels for a smooth, modern finish. Use wood glue and brad nails.
- Apply thin MDF strips in shaker style for subtle texture and depth.
- Install the wall sconces to light up your columns for a dramatic, theater-like glow.
Step 2: Add Sporty Art Pictures
Add bold, themed artwork featuring your favorite sports heroes or teams. We choose in particular pictures which are matching our color theme.
Step 3: Geometric Painted Accent Wall
This simple paint project instantly added visual interest, filled an otherwise empty stretch of wall, and pulled together all the colors of the room’s theme. It also gives the game room a clean, modern, and neutral vibe that feels intentional and stylish.

Q&A, Pro-Tips
Q: Would you do anything differently if you did it again?
A: I installed the cut MDF strips as trim without sanding them first. Looking back, lightly smoothing the edges would have given the trim a more polished, finished appearance.
